Zel'dovich and Vilenkin have suggested that topological strings
associated with symmetry breaking in a unified Yang-Mills theory might
be responsible for the formation of galaxies and clusters. It is shown
in this letter that the same strings would probably also lead to the
occurrence of massive black holes in galactic nuclei.
