This paper points out that the nonlinear coupling of a large-amplitude
electromagnetic pump wave with convective plasma fluid instabilities is
significantly enhanced by pump-induced temperature changes. It should
thus be easy to exceed the threshold values for parametric instabilities
in several ionospheric heating experiments.
