At Esrange a new system for measuring of winds before rocket launches has been developed. This system has also been used on bigger balloons as a backup measurement of position and as an aid in the recovery of balloon gondolas. The intention of the system is to use a low cost GPS module together with a low cost radio-transmitter that gives a system in the same price range as a radar reflector. A new recovery beacon system working with the same principle as above will also be developed. The system will include a new transmitter with a power output of 2 watt, which can be tuned for any frequency in different frequency bands from P-band to S-band. The unit will be made with an integrated antenna as well as a battery box, easily adapted to any type of equipment.
