The MS-T5 satellite equipped with a Faraday cup similar to the IMP 1 solar wind sensor is one of several satellites which will make simultaneous measurements of the solar wind plasma. A diagram of the cup is shown and its measuring principle is discussed. The effect of electrode contamination on the measurement of the modulated ion current versus the retarding angle of the Faraday cup with respect to ion flow is demonstrated and discussed.
