The 3000 sec modulation of the X-ray light curve of GK Per in the 1983 outburst is discussed. It is suggested that the timescale of running accretion fronts in the limited region lies between the thermal timescale and the diffusion timescale through the disk. The small instable region contributes only very little to the optical light (of order 1/100). The observed modulation of the optical light by 5% to 8% over 3000 sec could be understood as an effect of disk irradiation which varies with the central mass flow.
