The mean nucleation distance, 0954-3899/23/12/028/img1, is an important parameter in a first-order cosmological quark - hadron phase transition, as baryon inhomogeneities generated during the transition may persist to the time of nucleosynthesis, and alter the outcome of the light elements, provided 0954-3899/23/12/028/img1 is above 1 m. We describe different scenarios based on the MIT bag model to determine this distance, and briefly mention ongoing work that may completely change our picture of the phase transition.
