We propose to carry out XMM/EPIC observations of the open cluster IC4665 (35Myr, 350pc). The proposed observations serve two scientific goals: (1) determine the exact location of the cluster sequence in a color-magnitude diagram, down to 0.2Msun, and (2) test the age-rotation-activity paradigm for stars less massive than 0.6Msun. The X-ray measurements will be combined with our existing, deep time-resolved photometry, and multi-object spectroscopy. They will supersede the ROSAT-HRI observations, increasing the covered area by a factor of 2, and crucially decreasing the X-ray detection limit by a factor of 15. They will allow us to extend our knowledge of the mass function of young clusters, of the angular momentum evolution of young low-mass stars, and their related magnetic activity.
