We propose new XMM-Newton high time resolution EPIC-pn observations of a recently discovered radio and X-ray pulsar in the young oxygen-rich supernova remnant (SNR) G292.0+1.8. Our requested exposure time is sufficient to allow the first detailed study of the timing and spectral properties of the X-ray pulsar. In particular we will measure the X-ray pulse shape and phase as a function of photon energy, determine the phase lag between the radio and X-ray pulses, and measure the X-ray spectrum of the pulsed emission. Only XMM-Newton has sufficient sensitivity, high time resolution, and spectral capability to be able to study the X-ray properties of this new pulsar.
