The concept of a positive gradient in the solar wind velocity with respect to the heliomagnetic latitude and the change in the heliomagnetic latitude of the Earth has been utilized to explain the differences in the solar wind velocity variation around +/- and -/+ IMF sector boundaries in northern and southern heliolatitudes. It is shown that, using a sinusoidal symmetric heliospheric current sheet, one can explain the observed solar wind changes around the Hale and non-Hale types of sector boundaries.
