The electromagnetic condition for a model of anomalous X-ray pulsars
(AXPs) with a differentially rotating magnetic core is studied. It is
shown that, if the magnetic field of the pulsar has the dual role of
pulsation and release of the extra energy via Joule heat generation, its
strength must be at least 1019 G in the stellar core.
