Meteorites: Minerals

Scientific paper

The theory of Fisher (1973, 1977) and Joesten (1977) for the steady-state growth of mineral zones by diffusion-controlled reactions is modified to explicitly and formally account for polymineralic reactants, open-system diffusive fluxes, and diffusion geometry. The modifications are illustrated by applying the theory to olivine coronas in mesosiderite meteorites.
