The Sym-H index has been used as a higher time resolution measure of the storm intensity, which is associated with the magnetic disturbance caused by the ring current. The AU and AL indices express the strongest current intensity of the eastward and westward auroral electrojets respectively. In this study both the AU and AL indices are compared with the Sym-H index for storm-time events. The storm-time events are selected for minimal Dst less than - 50nT. It is found that the correlation between the auroral electrojets and ring current changes case by case. These events are then separated by high and low correlation coefficients. Upstream solar wind characteristics related to these events are investigated. Possible causes for changes of the correlation coefficients will be discussed as well.
