An attempt is made to describe a preliminary effort to construct a steady flow model for the solar network. An infinitesimally thin magnetic flux tube with very simplified thermodynamics is considered. Polytropic and adiabatic variants are examined for the flow. Observational data for the photosphere are found to be well reconciled with the adiabatic flow model; the thermodynamics for this model is treated semiempirically. A suggestion is made concerning the role of the convection zone in driving the flow in a flux tube.
