Data associated with radio and hard X-ray emission from known proton flares have been examined with respect to timing characteristics. Evidence is presented which indicates that for a fraction of the events studied, an early metric component exists in the type IV emission. Within the context of a multi-stage acceleration model, current interpretation associates the type IV metric emission with a second stage process. With the exception of the early component, results obtained here support this interpretation. Based on relative timing data, preliminary analysis suggests the association of the early metric component with a separate acceleration phase, time-wise consistent with a first stage process.
