It is well known that ideal single-fluid MHD does not reasonably represent the physics of the inner magnetosphere where energy dependent gradient and curvature drifts become important. As part of the space environment modeling activities of the Center for Integrated Space Weather Modeling (CISM), we have been working to merge the Rice Convection Model (RCM) into the Lyon-Fedder-Mobary (LFM) global MHD model of the magnetosphere. We present initial results of using LFM-computed magnetic and electric fields, ionospheric conductivity, and plasma distributions to drive the RCM. We describe and discuss the inner magnetosphere effects of this coupling, including the formation of region-2 field aligned currents and ring current.
