A method for determining the trajectory and amplitude characteristics of VLF waves propagating in the magnetosphere is proposed. It is shown that this method can explain a number of phenomena associated with the VLF propagation: a two-to-three-fold increase in VLF signal amplitude in magnetic-conjugate zones with increasing geomagnetic activity, and a decrease of VLF noise amplitude near the plasmapause as well as in the region where plasmaspheric noise is detected.
