2162 Solar Cycle Variations (7536), 2169 Sources Of The Solar Wind
Scientific paper
The Solar Wind Ion Composition Sensors on Ulysses and ACE have provided the most comprehensive set of solar wind elemental composition data to date. Solar wind elemental compositional variations have been observed by these instruments since 1990 and 1997 respectively. All solar wind is observed to be fractionated throughout the entire solar cycle. However, the degree of fractionation varies as a function and time and location throughout the solar cycle. We will review these observations and discuss a theoretical model used to explain these fractionation patterns. We will also discuss the implications of these models on long-term averaged isotopic composition measurements, such as to be provided by Genesis.
