In the granulites of the Brazilian shield, beryllium decreases in the order: intermediate granulites, basic granulites, granitic granulites. Two hypotheses are put forward for this peculiar distribution: 1. (1) isochemical behaviour during metamorphism of the original sediment, where Be was more abundant in pelitic than in arenaceous rocks; 2. (2) dehydration reactions and/or partial melting, with removal of a Bebearing mobilizate, affecting the granitic more than the intermediate or basic granulites.
