The atmospheres of Mars, Venus and the Earth display a remarkable
variety of physical conditions and chemical processes, whose full
complexity we are beginning to appreciate. After a quarter of a century
of in situ probing and remote sensing, the young subject of "comparative
planetology" is maturing into "planetary contrastology".
