The X-ray images of nine impulsive bursts presently subjected to morphological study reveal single sources, either extended or compact, over the entire duration of the bursts. The sources of all four spike bursts in the sample are compact, and a diminution in source size accompanies a position shift after the main phase of the impulsive bursts. It is also noted that X-ray source size is greater than that of the H-alpha kernel in two events out of three. It is suggested that the strong electric field along the magnetic field, demonstrably produced at the force-free current's decay, is responsible for the fact that the X-ray source is single.
