Black Holes: Thermodynamics

Scientific paper

Thermodynamical properties of Reissner-Nordström black holes are described in anti-de Sitter space. The black-hole solution is shown to exist at any finite temperature and to satisfy the so-called area theorem of the horizon. Local stability as well as the phase structure of the black-hole system is then clarified in proper reference to the value of charge. It is also argued that there will be no limiting mass for the application of the microcanonical algorithm to the black-hole ensemble.
