Recently the physical radii of a number of G, K and M giants were determined interferometrically (van Belle et al., 1999) using the Palomar Testbed Interferometer and using distances obtained with the Hipparcos satellite. Some of these giants are pulsating variables. For stars of which the physical radius is known independently, asteroseismic data can help constrain evolutionary models particularly well, and these are therefore good candidates for observation with MONS.
