This paper reviews some aspects of ground-based photometric and spectrographic support for a space mission like MONS. In particular we discuss individual approach versus organised observing, single- against multi-site monitoring and mission-confined to extended ground-based monitoring. A basic concept for ground-based photometric operations is briefly outlined.
