Various characteristics of Comet Halley interpreted from ground-based observations are described. The relation between comet nuclei and the Oort cloud, and the perturbation of the Oort cloud are discussed. The masses and tensile strengths, and rotation periods for comet nuclei are examined. Consideration is given to the use of the ice-dust conglomerate model to calculate the rate and onset of sublimation for comet nuclei.
