We confirm here the report of Kulkarni et al.1 who discovered IR bursts from the X-ray rapid burster, MXB1730-335. We observed two bursts at 2.2 µm, each of energy ~1031 J, and a new feature; several bright, brief flashes (Δt< 1 s) superimposed on the burst continuum. The brevity, luminosity and inferred brightness temperature of the flashes (TB≳1010K) imply a powerful, non-thermal emission mechanism. Simultaneous observations across the whole spectrum with high time resolution would be invaluable in understanding the emission process.
