The physics and equations used in the proposed electrostatic model of a
quiet auroral arc are discussed. The procedure for obtaining approximate
solutions of Poisson's equation coupled to ionosphere current
conservation is given. A comparison with a specific discrete auroral arc
as seen from the auroral satellite S3-3 is presented.
