Calculations of compressibility, magnetic compressibility, and damping rate are made for obliquely propagating Alfven waves in high- and low-beta Vlasov plasmas. The basic square-law wave number dependence of compressibility is demonstrated, and it is shown how the results relate to the early work of Wu and Huba (1975). The implications of the results for actual measurements of the near-sun solar wind are briefly discussed.
