While developing the ideas of Faraday, Maxwell, and Lorentz on the unity of the physical nature of all forces that vary as the inverse of the square of the distance, the author proposes an electromagnetic and thermodynamic theory of gravitation. It is shown that a Newtonian force will develop between a test body and a screen in a spherically symmetric field of electromagnetic radiation produced by an absolute black body with continuous radiation spectrum, the Newtonian force that arises being the effect of the attenuation of an isotropic, homogeneous, and symmetric band of electromagnetic radiation of specific intensity. The formula obtained is identical to Newton's formula. The gravitational constant results from the product of the intensity of the radiation field having gravitational effects and the absorption coefficient per unit mass. The gravitational force is an effect and is a passive, repulsive force. Some methods are indicated for experimental verification of the theory.
