A variety of processes set limits on how closely remote sensing data can be coupled to science issues requiring detailed compositional analyses. Issues related to small-scale regolith processes, and space weathering in particular, are outlined here. Larger-scale issues are discussed in a companion abstract. This outline is presented to provoke discussion and is not assumed to be comprehensive.
