The composition of samples of lunar regolith collected on the Apollo and Luna missions are highly variable; the lunar meteorites, most of which are breccias of lithified regolith from unknown locations on the Moon, extend the compositional range. Some aspects of regolith composition as inferred from studies of samples that are relevant for interpretation of data obtained remotely are discussed.
