Diffusivities of radioactive tracers, 60Co, 46Sc, 153Gd. and 170Tm, in synthetic gehlenite (Ca2Al2SiO7) and akermanite (Ca2MgSi2O7), two end-members of melilite have been measured. In this work 60Co is used as a substitute for a Mg isotope, and 46Sc, 153Gd and 170Tm are used as representatives of the rare earth elements (REE). Diffusivities of Mg isotopes and REE in melilite, when combined with the distributions of these isotopes and elements in the Ca, Al-rich inclusion (CAI) in the carbonaceous meteorites, may provide important information on the origin of CAI's.
