We carried out an Hα emission line imaging study of a sample of nine ring galaxies, in order to map the distribution of HII regions in them. HII regions are detected in all the sample galaxies, with a majority of the HII regions confined to the ring. In four of the sample galaxies, we detect, for the first time, relatively fainter HII regions in the inner-ring region. These regions offer us a unique opportunity to study the physical condition of the gas interior to the ring. HII regions serve to understand a variety of aspects of ring galaxies, the most important of them being the trigger of star formation and the metallicity of the ionized gas. In this contribution, we will be discussing the distribution of HII regions from the framework of circularly expanding density waves. Preliminary results from a spectroscopic study of these regions, to obtain the oxygen abundance, will also be presented.
