Infrared spectroscopy allow us to study the molecular content of interstellar and circumstellar clouds through the observation of the ro-vibrational transitions of molecular species. In particular, some species can only be studied at infrared wavelengths due to their lack of permanent dipole moment and, hence, of pure rotational lines. In addition, polar light molecular species have their pure rotational lines in the far-infrared and can be studied only using infrared telescopes. In this paper I present the results obtained with ISO related to the detection of CH+, FH, CH3, C3, CO2, C4H2, C6H2 and of benzene from observations of their rotational and/or their ro-vibrational lines in the near, mid, and far infrared.
