We discuss recent determinations of the elemental abundances for stars
of extremely-low metallicity, below that of the lowest-metallicity
globular clusters. Emphasis is placed on new insights obtained from the
extant observations, in particular by comparison with analytic models of
the mixing of supernovae ejecta with the interstellar medium.
