The effect of a magnetic overshoot (a feature characteristic for supercritical collisionless shocks) on the shock drift acceleration is investigated by performing numerical simulations of ensembles of ion test particles to estimate reflection probabilities, energy gains, and anisotropies. Results indicate that the magnetic overshoot significantly enhances particle reflection when the initial gyroradius of the particle is of the order of the shock transition length. Moreover, compared to the no-overshoot case, the overshoot results in more field-aligned beams upstream of the shock by causing initially lower-energy particles to reflect than in the no-overshoot case. Results are consistent with the study of Burghess (1987), in which the electromagnetic fields were generated by a hybrid code.
