To choose the best fiber for astronomy, characteristics supplied by manufacturers are insufficient because they are mainly interested in communication industry and our needs are quite different. One needs a wide spectral range and a low focal ratio degradation. So one cannot avoid laboratory measurements to be sure what the fibers performances are in our conditions of operation. This paper describes the study of some fibers whose mechanical and geometrical characteristics meet our requirements.
