A simple model for the acceleration of electrons up to suprathermal energies of about a few tens of keV within magnetic solar loops is proposed. In the model, quasi-monochromatic whistler waves generated near the top of the loop (due to the presence of an anisotropic electron population) propagate back and forth along the coronal loop and become electrostatic whistlers which are capable of trapping thermal electrons at the top of the loop. The phase velocity of the wave is increased due to the inhomogeneity of the B-field, thus accelerating the trapped electrons before they can be detrapped at the feet of the coronal loop.
