Distortions of long period telluric fields, caused by superficial electrical inhomogeneities over the territory of Czechoslovakia, have been investigated by solving Price's equation in a 2-D thin-sheet approximation. Yegorov's numerical hybrid approach, which combined the finite element and analytical solutions, was used to obtain the distribution of Price's current function and the corresponding telluric fields over a laterally inhomogeneous region. Polarization ellipses of telluric fields and their characteristics thus determined are compared with the results of magnetotelluric soundings performed along a DSS profile traversing the main structural units of Czechoslovakia.
