A spherical gas cloud which has been brought to the verge of gravitational collapse by the pressure of the external medium is considered. An investigation is conducted of the possibility that during the collapse the cloud fragments into a large number of protostars. Attention is given to the effect of a galactic magnetic field and the model of a uniformly rotating cloud. Two extreme cases regarding the relation between magnetic field and angular velocity are studied.
