Duncan and Fonti's (1981) method for evaluating the diffraction pattern of an optical system for monochromatic radiation is extended to nonmonochromatic radiation, and the accuracy of the theoretical predictions are experimentally tested. The good agreement between the theory and experiment indicates that the outlined method can be successfully used to evaluate the diffraction pattern for nonmonochromatic far infrared experiments.
