Data from nineteen years of noctilucent cloud observations are available in a relatively homogeneous set. Analysis of these data is discussed: solar cycle, seasonal, daily, lunar and magnetic variations are demonstrable. It is clear that the dynamical nature of the upper mesosphere and lower thermosphere has a major influence on the frequency of occurrence of the clouds.
