The statistical properties of interplanetary shocks in the solar-distance range of 0.3 AU to 1.0 AU are studied using the Helios-1 and Helios-2 spacecraft. The results from 105 fast shock events observed by Helios-1 and 73 shock events observed by Helios-2 during the time interval from January 1975 to December 1980 are presented. The analysis of shock events uses magnetic-field data and plasma data from both spacecraft. The results indicate that more than 50 percent of the shocks have a normal direction which forms an angle up to 35 deg with the anti-solar direction, therefore a clear distance dependence cannot be confirmed, that more than 75 percent of the shocks have fast Mach numbers less than two and rarely greater than four, and that the Alfven Mach number shows values less than about ten. It is also shown that the distributions of the magnetic-field magnitude, density, and plasma-pressure ratios show independence of the solar distance.
