Laser pulses of a finely focused beam were used to simulate
micrometeorite impacts on lunar rocks and in lunar soil. The electron
microscope pictures show the detailed effects so caused; it is possible
to derive an estimate of the comparative amounts of erosion a given
micrometeorite flux would cause in lunar rocks and lunar soil.
