The evolution of the Robertson-Walker scale factor R (t) during a first order phase transition from a quark-gluon plasma phase to a hadronic phase is investigated. In the k = 0 case R (t) is found to be oscillatory, a behaviour which sets an upper limit Δtm to the time allowed for estimates of the actual transition time. Furthermore, Δtm and the transition time are found to be fairly insensitive to the quark-gluon equation of state at a given transition temperature.
