Ionospheric absorption enhancements following selected geomagnetic disturbances are analysed to examine their latitude dependence. Al pulse echo data measured on frequencies near 2 MHz are used from 22 stations situated at various latitudes. The durations of the absorption enhancements at two amplitude levels are used as indices which uniformly characterize the events at the individual stations. On this basis a global latitudinal variation of enhanced absorption is presented and the after-effect traced to a geomagnetic latitude as low as 25 deg N.
