Night-time values for the electron diffusion coefficient were determined for ionospheric heights between 260 and 400 km from midlatitude station data for 1958. It is shown that in magnetically quiet periods, the diffusion coefficient is constant, but that with an increase in Kp index the coefficient increases. The coefficient practically doubles in summer and winter months when there is an increase in magnetic storm activity and, thus, a decrease in electron concentration in the F region. The effect of ionospheric transport processes (diffusion, drift) is particularly noticeable during increased magnetic activity. The variation of the electron diffusion coefficient with height was also investigated.
