Photometric measurements and analysis of 1200 negatives from ground-based television observations of the major Martian yellow storm of 1971 showed that the storm subsided in a nonmonotonic fashion. The appearance of local dust clouds, accompanied by a strengthening of the storm, was recorded on two occasions: on November 25, 1971 and on January 28, 1972.
