In the context of the restricted three-body problem, the motion separation and averaging method is used to obtain approximate equations describing the rotational motion of a viscoelastic sphere in canonic variables. The evolution of this motion is investigated. The equations contain forces that are considered in the tide theory of planets and therefore can be used in studying these phenomena.
