Infrared Extinction: Interstellar Dust, Uv Extinction: Interstellar Dust, Extinction: Interstellar Dust

Scientific paper

The authors present an analysis of the variability of absolute IR, optical, and UV extinction, Aλ, derived through the ratio of total-to-selective extinction, R[≡AV/E(B-V)], for 31 lines of sight for which reliable UV extinction parameters have been derived, These data sample a wide range of environments. The authors find that there is a strong linear dependence between extinction expressed as Aλ/AV and R-1 for 1.25 μm ≤ λ ≤ 0.12 μm.
