Scientific paper

The paper gives a general description of the mount and measuring arrangement for the Geneva Observatory 40-cm Cassegrain photometric telescope, which has been installed at the La Silla Observatory in northern Chile, equipped by the European Southern Observatory, for the purpose of extending the Geneva seven-color photometric measurements to the southern sky. The measuring site is actually detached from the cupola where the telescope is located for greater convenience of the observer. Observation programs include systematic measurement of all nonvariable stars brighter than 4.5 mag, measurement of clusters of galaxies, measurement of the stars of the Scorpion-Centaur moving cluster, survey of the southern galactic pole and certain stars of the galactic halo, and a sampling of stars (mostly of type A) with spectral peculiarities.
